Game Features
While the original Witcher was built on a heavily modified
version of Bioware's Aurora engine, The Witcher 2 is an entirely
fresh beast. Not a single element from the first game was used
in CD Projekt's brand new engine. With side-by-side comparisons
at our disposal, the jump in quality was arresting. Never one
to shy away from hyperbole, CD Projekt's reps believe this is
the finest looking RPG ever created – and from what we've
seen so far, we're inclined to agree. That is high praise – and
this game's engine is certainly a capable beast
The character models – faces in particular – have all seen a
significant bump up in textural and muscular quality, developed
through refining industry-leading practices. The 256 in-game
cinematics now highlight the excellent environments (fleshed
out in a gloriously saturated palate) and a lighting and physics
system that sits on par with the best this industry offers.
Before this becomes one long glowing love-letter to the engine
though, we do think that the lip-synching still has a ways to
go at this stage. Still, with the game's release still pigeonholed
for next year, we're confident there's time to tweak this.
Flexible, Varied Gameplay
Thanks to a strong first game that valued the player's approach
to a given scenario –and offered choice and depth in most
situations, The Witcher 2 had a solid foundation to build on. As
in the first game, the combat is a fluid mix of hand-to-hand,
spellcraft and sword play. However, the system has been retooled
and optimized for gamepads, rather than mouse-clicks. We're
assured the new system is more fluid, intuitive and fun. The other
significant improvement rests with Geralt's use of the environment.
Every corner can be peered around; waist-high objects become
invaluable cover for stealthing around.
Critically, the world itself is far less linear, too; every building you
see can be reached and every surface is yours for scaling if you
have the proper attributes to get you there.

Message about missing file w1import.dllup
In case of an error with a broken or missing w1import.dll file, please download it from the following location: ftp://ftp4.cdprojekt.com/pub/pl/wiedzmin2/Patch/w1import.dll. The file should be placed in the bin folder in The Witcher 2 install location, which by default is:
C:\Program Files\The Witcher 2\bin for 32-bit systems
C:\Program Files (x86)\The Witcher 2\bin for 64-bit systems
Where to find the game's serial number?up
The serial number of the game (Product Activation Code) is required to activate the game. Additionally, it is needed to register your copy of the game on www.thewitcher.com website. Registration on www.thewitcher.com is optional and will allow you to e. g. download additional content (DLC, language packets).

The error occurs because the Windows DirectX drivers are either broken or not installed at all.
To solve this problem you should download and install the latest DirectX drivers
Attempting to install the game produces an error (component transfer error, CRC data error)up
CRC data error messages or other problems occuring during the installation of "The Witcher 2" can have various causes - usually they are caused by the optical drive malfunction (problems with reading DVD9 format discs) or by another application interfering with the game installation. Listed below you’ll find instructions on what to do to install the game correctly:
1) Make sure that the CDs are not dirty or scratched - any damage can impair the correct reading of the CD
2) Try installing the game from the hard drive. To do that create two new folders in a chosen location and copy into them (using Copy-Paste) all the contents of the two The Witcher 2 CDs. If during the copying process no errors occur, open the file Setup.exe which can be found in the folder with the contents of the DVD1 disc. When you are asked to insert the second CD, press the Browse key and afterwards select the folder into which the DVD2 was copied.
3) Start the installation after performing a “clean boot” on your computer.

mfc100u.dll was not foundup
At an installation attempt a message appears:
“Launcher.exe - system error
This application failed to start because mfc100u.dll was not found. Reinstalling might help fix this problem."
Installing the 32-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 packet may solve the problem. The packet's installer - a file named vcredist_x86.exe - can be found on the "Game - disk 2" CD.
No proper privileges to activate the gameup
At an attempt to start the game a message appears:
“launcher
You are not allowed to continue because your do not have the proper privileges. Please log in using an account with administrator privileges and try again."
This message appears when a user does not have the privileges required to run an application. To run the program:
1) In Windows XP logon to an account with full administrator's rights.
2) In Windows Vista and Windows 7 right-click a shortcut to the game and then select vcredist_x86.exe" in the menu.
Very low performance in the gameup
In case of low performance in game please ensure that you have ubersampling turned off. To do this one need to enter advanced settings in graphic and language settings menu.
Also, players with NVIDIA graphic cards are advised to update their drivers to 275.27 beta version from may 17th, or newer.
Entering the Product Activation Code produces no effectup
After the installation is complete the Product Activation Code is requested. After you enter the code it will get verified and then the program will close without any warning. Activating and starting the game before the release date is not possible. To activate the game it is necessary to connect once to the Internet to verify the key. On the release day servers will be put up enabling the download of the files needed for activating and starting 'The Witcher 2'. No sound on headphones with external USB 7.1 soundcardup
In case of USB 7.1 headphones (like Logitech G35) changing sound settings from 7.1 to 5.1 fixes the problem.
Antivirus software detects a virus in the witcher2.exe fileup
Some of the antivirus programs (e. g. McAfee, Ikarus, Norton) may detect a virus in the witcher2.exe file. It's a false positive, the file is not harmful to the system, nor to the user's computer, in any way. CD Projekt RED has contacted antivirus manfucaturers in order to dispose of the problem.
Some of the programs may yield a false positive if their threat definitions were not updated. Please make sure that you installed all the latest updates for the antivirus.
If despite the installation of the newest updates the problem still occurs please temporarily disable your antivirus software (for the duration of installation and the download of the game updates).

Some of the antivirus programs (the problem occured for BellGuard antivirus) may detect a virus in the witc857.rra file. It's a false positive, it’s a temporary file with a random name created by InstallShield. The file is not harmful to the system, nor to the user's computer in any way.
Some of the programs may yield a false positive if their threat definitions were not updated. Please make sure that you installed all the latest updates for the antivirus.
If despite the installation of the newest updates the problem still occurs please temporarily disable your antivirus software (for the duration of installation and the download of the game updates).
1. The game runs with varying speed, speeding up or slowing down spontaneously (with AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor)up
The problem:
There occur problems with many games when we use AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core. Among those issues are hitching of the graphics, the speed of the game dropping or changing suddenly. These problems are usually caused by missing drivers for AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processors.
Solution:
Install the latest versions of these programs:
1. AMD Dual-Core Optimizer
2. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Driver
The drivers for AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core can be found on the AMD company's website.
These drivers are meant EXCLUSIVELY for AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processors and installing them on a computer with a different processor can cause damage to the system.
2. The Configurator's buttons are flashing and overlap each other.up
If the size of text (DPI) has been increased in the system settings then problems with the Configurator might occur such as flashing buttons, buttons overlapping each other etc.
If these problems occur, please return to the standard text size.

In General tab in DPI setting menu select Normal size (96 DPI)

From text size options select Smaller - 100% (default)

3. I cannot enter anything into the Product Activation Code fieldup
Such a situation may occur if a non-default text size (DPI) is used. In this case please restore the default size (100%). Find the instructions on how to change the text size in this link.
4. The sound in game is breaking and hitching.up
Make sure that your sound card drivers are up-to-date.
Changing the Sound Acceleration settings with the use of DirectX tool.
Go to Start -> Run, type dxdiag in and confirm with Ok (Enter). In the Sound tab move the slider to the left (to reduce acceleration) or to the right (to switch to full Hardware Sound Acceleration). Finally close dxdiag.
Importing saves from the first Witcher gameup
The Witcher 2 will automatically import the saves from the end of the first Witcher game only if they are located in the default folder:
